CITROËN AND CARLSSON JOIN FORCES

c5 by carlsson, photo by citroen 09/2001For the Frankfurt Motor Show, Citroën and Carlsson joined forces to develop a "high-performance" version of the C5 Estate V6. The partnership between a leading carmaker and a renowned German tuning company has created a vehicle that combines elegance, performance and functional excellence with advanced technological content. The Citroën C5 by Carlsson brings enhanced dynamic performance to an estate that is recognised as being one of the most functional and practical currently on the market. By associating these qualities, Citroën and Carlsson have developed a vehicle that is quite simply unique, thanks notably to the new-generation Hydractive 3 suspension, which solves the problems linked to the loads carried by vehicles in this category. The Citroën C5 by Carlsson features a more powerful 3.0 V6 engine of 173 kW ( 235 bhp DIN ). The running gear has been adapted in consequence, notably with specially designed 18-inch wheels. These modifications do not affect the comfort and behaviour of the Citroën C5 by Carlsson.

The engine is coupled with an auto-adaptive automatic gearbox with sequential control. The Citroën C5 by Carlsson sports exterior aerodynamic styling features at the front, on the sides and at the rear of the vehicle. The interior also catches the eye with its high-quality, luxurious and refined styling. Designed using elegant materials such as Amaretta® and leather, the C5 by Carlsson is positioned squarely in the world of luxury vehicles. The transformation of the Citroën C5 was developed and conducted by Carlsson.

The Citroën C5 by Carlsson: a thoroughbred engine

The substantial improvements in performance offered on the C5 by Carlsson were achieved primarily by modifying the top part of the V6 engine ( intake and exhaust camshafts, intake manifold ) and the engine control unit. The upgraded engine develops 173 kW ( 235 bhp DIN ) at 6,000 rpm ( compared with 152 kW for the standard model ), with maximum torque of 320 Nm at 3,750 rpm ( compared with 285 Nm for the standard model ). Maximum values have increased significantly but the responsiveness and driving pleasure of the original engine remain unchanged, with engine torque of 260 Nm at 2,000 rpm. The engine is coupled with an auto-adaptive automatic gearbox. Designed to adapt to road conditions and to the behaviour of the driver, the gearbox also features a manual control function based on sequential push-button control. The maximum track speed is 245 km/h.

Roadholding that reflects Citroën's expertise

The modifications made to the Citroën C5 by Carlsson concerned not just the engine but also the running gear. The objective was to maintain and reinforce the unanimously recognised dynamic qualities of the C5. The Citroën C5 by Carlsson features large wheels ( 225/40 x 18 ) equipped with alloy wheel rims of a new design. The different suspension settings (damping, springing, anti-roll) have been adapted to the new set-up with no trade-off in the overall comfort, which remains on a par with that of the original vehicle. Like all Citroën vehicles featuring hydraulic suspension, the C5 by Carlsson maintains performance levels regardless of load.

Dynamic exterior styling

Also, the exterior rearview mirrors are painted black and two oval exhaust rods have been fitted at the rear. These modifications reflect the efforts made by the two partners to maintain the vehicle's image of reliability while bringing an additional sparkle to performance.

Luxury interior styling

c5 by carlsson, photo by citroen 09/2001The interior styling of the C5 by Carlsson has been customised with a view to providing a superlative quality and finish that will satisfy even the most demanding customers. Leather and Amaretta® cover most of the passenger compartment. "Cognac" leather is used for part of the seats and the lower part of the dashboard and trim. Dark grey Amaretta® is used for the top part of the dashboard and the door panels. Cognac Amaretta® is used in the seats, door panels and roof trim. The colours used in the vehicle on display offer a touch of luxury that is in keeping with the interior styling of the C5 Estate. All the original features can naturally be found on this new version.

One of Germany's leading tuning companies, Carlsson enjoys international renown. The company has been based in the Saar region of Germany for more than ten years. The tuning range developed by Carlsson combines high-performance engines and running gear with a sharp but discreet elegance: an unmistakable signature for connoisseurs.
