Audi's tradition in building armour-plated luxury saloons can be traced back to its Zwickau-based predecessor Horch

Audi presents the new A6 SecurityThe new Audi A6 4.2 quattro Security offers the comfort of a luxury-class saloon combined with high levels of security. One of the factors in assuring that security is the car's discreet appearance, designed to attract no special attention. The Security barely differs from a standard production A6. The armour-plating - tested and certified by the Munich Weapons Testing Office - conforms to the ballistic requirements of the European VR4 standard, covering protection against mechanical force and against shots from hand weapons such as pistols and revolvers up to 0.44 millimetre Magnum calibre. One of the benefits of the Audi A6 Security is its quattro permanent four-wheel drive system, which translates the engine power output into high levels of forward propulsion and lateral road-holding, so ensuring that the car provides outstanding and supremely safe handling. The A6 Security is manufactured in its entirety in an optimised production process at the Audi plant in Neckarsulm, which means the individual components are attuned perfectly to provide optimum levels of security. Drive train and chassis The new Audi A6 Security is provided with the necessary propulsion by its powerful 4.2 V8 246 kW (335 bhp) engine working in conjunction with the tiptronic automatic transmission. Its electronically governed top speed is 250 km/h. The quattro permanent four-wheel drive system distributes the power evenly between all four wheels, thereby reducing the risk of slip. In combination with the electronic stabilisation program ESP, it ensures superior handling even on poor road surfaces and in bad weather conditions. The Audi dynamic chassis, specially adapted to cope with the additional weight, together with the electronically controlled air suspension deliver optimum driving dynamics and ride comfort at all times. Safety equipment Available options include an alarm horn and warning flasher for emergency situations, an armour-plated floor and protection against tear gas attack. The Audi A6 Security can also be fitted with an intercom system enabling its occupants to communicate with people outside the vehicle without having to open the doors or windows. A lockable strongbox for valuables can also be ordered. An optional extra for the tyres is the PAX run-flat system with electronic pressure monitoring. This allows the car to be driven on for up to 100 kilometres at a top speed of 80 km/h, even if a tyre has suffered a complete loss of pressure. Equipment Even the new Audi A6 4.2 quattro Security's standard spec is of a level unmatched by many a luxury-class saloon. This high standard is immediately evidenced by the premium quality of materials and finish. A feature that none of the competitors has to offer is the Multi Media Interface "MMI basic", comprising not only the 6.5-inch monochrome display, but also an integrated radio with CD player and four speakers. Standard features also include high-performance deluxe automatic air conditioning, as well as optimised acoustics. The electromechanical parking brake as well as a light and rain sensor are further standard features. History Audi's tradition in building armour-plated luxury saloons can be traced back to its Zwickau-based predecessor Horch. Weapons testing was carried out on the Horch 8 type 375 as long ago as 1928. Heads of state, government ministers and top business executives have been riding in Audi security-enhanced saloons since 1980 - initially in the Audi 100, since 1994 in the Audi A8 and today also in the new Audi A6 4.2 quattro Security.
