With more than 400 hp / 294 kW and a maximum torque of more than 600 Nm, these engines - run exclusively on ARAL high-performance lubricants - set new standards for performance-tuned Mercedes-Benz engines. By implanting the new BRABUS V8 in the engine bay of the CL 203 model series, BRABUS created the C V8 Sports Coupe. Power transfer to the rear wheels is handled by a modified five-speed automatic gearbox and a custom rear wheel-drive assembly. The performance of the BRABUS C V8 Sports Coupe elevates it to a unique position among compact cars: With an acceleration time of just 4.5 seconds from 0 - 100 km/h and a top speed of 301 km/h, the three-door is on a level with purebred sportscars. In light of this enormous performance potential, suspension, brakes and aerodynamics were modified accordingly. The suspension of the eight-cylinder sports coupe was developed in close cooperation with SACHS Race Engineering, taking into account the altered weight distribution. The BRABUS high-performance brake system easily handles even the most extreme stress. It features six-piston aluminum fixed-calipers and 355-mm internally ventilated and perforated disks on the front axle and 300-mm disks with four-piston aluminum fixed-calipers in the rear. BRABUS engineers also worked out expert modifications of the standard driving dynamics systems ABS, ASR and ESP. The sporty-looking BRABUS front spoiler, manufactured from PUR-Rim in OEM quality, minimizes lift on the front axle and improves directional stability at high speeds. brabus c v8 sports coupe, photo by brabus 2001The BRABUS rear apron features a cutout for the two tailpipes of the stainless steel BRABUS sport exhaust system. Maximum driving safety is also a matter of choosing the perfect tires. BRABUS equips the C V8 Sports Coupe with multi-piece BRABUS Monoblock VI light-alloy wheels and Michelin or Pirelli high-performance tires. The 8.5Jx19 double-spoke rims on the front axle are mounted with tires in size 235/35 ZR 19. The 9.5Jx19 rims on the rear axle handle the enormous V8 power with the help of 265/30 ZR 19 tires. The BRABUS automobile also offers exclusive individuality in the interior: The list of interior options includes an ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel with airbag, aluminum foot pedals and shift levers, chrome doorsills, high-quality floormats with BRABUS logo, and even a fully leather interior made from BRABUS mastik leather. The BRABUS C V8 Sports Coupe will be built in an exclusive small-series production run starting in fall of 2001.
