HUMMER H3 now arriving in Europe
DETROIT - General
Motors' HUMMER Division this month continues its global expansion with the
sale of the all-new 2006 HUMMER H3 in Europe.
The HUMMER H2 is currently sold in 33 countries around
the world. "HUMMER has global appeal. European customers have already
demonstrated a high level of acceptance of the HUMMER H2 due to its unparalleled
off-road capabilities and iconic design," said Susan Docherty, general manager
of HUMMER who oversees the brand in the U.S. and abroad. "We expect the H3
to make the HUMMER brand even more approachable and accessible to a wider
array of European consumers." Initially the H3 for Europe will be offered
in a U.S.-built left-hand-drive configuration with a Vortec 3.5L inline
five-cylinder engine, rated at 220 hp (164 kW). As part of HUMMER's growth
plan, a global version of the H3 with added features and content aimed at
markets outside North America will go into production in GM's plant in
Struandale, South Africa in late-2006. Those models will later offer both
right-hand drive and an optional diesel engine.
