It is a triumphant combination
of sportiness and versatility, with highly developed technologies allied
to the luxury of the full-size category. Onroad, the Audi performance SUV
delivers sportiness and dynamism, and offroad too it offers lots of driving
enjoyment.
Body and interior
The Audi Q7 is 5.09 meters (16.70 ft) long (Audi
Q7 V12 TDI: 5.06 meters (16.60 ft)) and has a 3.00 meter (9.84
ft) wheelbase. It embodies the classic Audi sportiness, with a sweeping
roof line and typical striking contrast between the high sides and flat window
area. The tapered front end and the sturdy rear, with the low-angled D-posts,
frame the silhouette of a coupe. Passengers in the Audi Q7 enjoy supreme
comfort and space, with outstanding variability a total of 28 seat
and loading configurations are possible. Customers can choose from four seat
configuration options with four, five, six or seven seats. In the
five-seater variant the rear bench seat can be adjusted back or forward as
required; in its four- or six-seat version the Audi Q7 features two luxuriously
appointed single seats. Seats in the third row of the six- and seven-seater
models are large enough for occupants up to 160 centimeters (5 ft 3in)
in height. The two rear seat rows can be laid down flat to provide a 2,035
liter (71.87 cubic ft) load space. The Audi Q7 has a luggage compartment
cover, load guard and luggage compartment liner as standard. Audi also provides
a large number of options, including a cargo-securing kit and a rack to hold
up to two bikes. A power-operated tailgate is another optional extra. The
trailer hitch can also be swiveled out and back in electrically as an option.
It enables the Audi Q7 to pull a weight of up to 3.5 metric tons (7716.18
lb). The Audi parking system is fitted as standard.
Drivetrain
Audi Q7 customers can choose from four powerful engine
options: two gasoline and two TDI units. All four feature direct fuel
injection.
The range:
- 3.6 FSI quattro developing 206 kW (280 bp)
- 4.2 FSI quattro developing 257 kW (350 bp)
- 3.0 TDI quattro developing 176 kW (240 bp)
- 4.2 TDI quattro developing 249 kW (326 bp)
Power is in all cases transmitted via a six-speed tiptronic
automatic transmission and quattro permanent four-wheel drive. The self-locking
center differential splits the torque 40 : 60 between the front and rear
as standard. This delivers sportily agile handling and precise power transmission
for the driver.
Suspension
The running gear is a sophisticated independent suspension
system with double wishbones at the front and rear. Most system components
are made of aluminum. All Audi Q7 variants are fitted with the speed-sensitive
servotronic steering system. 18-inch wheels are fitted as standard, though
the options extend up to 21 inches. Adaptive air suspension is available
as an option (standard for the 4.2 TDI quattro), combining air suspension
with electronically controlled shock absorbers. Ground clearance can be varied
in five stages, and the loading sill can be lowered to load heavy items.
The ESP electronic stabilization program features hill start assist and hill
descent assist as well as an offroad mode. The trailer stabilization system
prevents the trailer from fishtailing. The four brake disks are internally
ventilated and generously dimensioned, with a diameter of 350 millimeters
(13.78 in) on the front axle and 330 millimeters (12.99 in)
at the rear. Audi ceramic brakes are available as optional extras for the
8-cylinder models. These are 20" high-performance brakes featuring carbon
fiber-reinforced ceramic disks.
Assistance and communications systems
The Audi Q7 offers a range of innovative assistance
systems. The adaptive cruise control system controls the cars speed
and distance to the vehicle ahead using radar; its additional Audi braking
guard function warns of impending collisions. Audi side assist is a security
aid when changing lane, while Audi lane assist alerts the driver if the car
unintentionally begins to drift out of lane. Another luxury feature is the
Audi parking system advanced with a rearview camera. In terms of entertainment
and communications, too, the Audi Q7 has attractive options on offer. They
include a Bang & Olufsen sound system; two navigation units; the Audi
music interface for easy iPod connection; modules for digital radio and TV
reception; a Bluetooth car phone and a Rear Seat Entertainment system in
two variants.
